Changing it up a bit
I am considering running a 5K race in July, so I thought I would do some training & see if I will be ready for it. So yesterday, instead of doing the elliptical (my favorite cardio machine), I walked at a brisk pace (almost a jog) on the treadmill for the same amount of time as I would normally go on the elliptical. I didn't go as fast, or as far, or burn as many calories, but MAN-- do I feel it today! There is definately more impact on a treadmill than on an elliptical machine. Plus, I hurt my ankle doing kickboxing last week & it was still bothering me yesterday. I am going to continue to walk on the treadmill & slowly add minutes of running to it. And if I end up walking for part of a 5K RUN, oh well--at least I am going to finish. Now, next year, is a whole different ball game!

It doesn't matter if you walk part of the 5K, it just matters that you do it. And girl, you can totally do it! I have faith in you.
Even in my marathon training, walking is an essential part of the strategy. Here is the philosophy " Walking is a perfectly acceptable strategy in trying to finish a marathon. While some coaches recommend walking 1 minute out of every 10, or walking 1 minute every mile, in the CARA Marathon Training Class, we teach runners to walk when they come to an aid station. This serves a double function: 1) you can drink more easily while walking as opposed to running, and 2) since many other runners slow or walk through aid stations, you'll be less likely to block those behind.
Oh yeah..I signed up today, officially, for the Lakefront Marathon ;)
That is AWESOME Brian! I need to do that to... just sign up, officially. Create some accountability to keep my butt in gear!
