My husband's birthday

Today is my husband's birthday. He has yet to decide what kind of cake that he wants. I will fix whatever he wants. But I have already decided that whatever it is, I am going to have just a really small slice. I don't need a big slice, like I have in the past

Today will also be my first official day on the ww program. I think that the hardest part will be making sure that I balance all of my meals. We always eat a balanced dinner (meat, 1-2 vegetables, & a pasta/starch). But breakfasts & lunches are usually not balanced. I usually don't eat any snacks. But then I think I tend to overeat at dinner.

My goal for this week will be to learn the program, keep track of all of my points & to get in all the required foods like proteins, veggies, fruits, oils. Oh yeah & start taking my multivitamin that I bought & haven't opened yet!

Anyone have any thoughts on how to get in 2 servings of oil a day? And how often I should aim for exercise?

In reference to yesterday's comments: Andi, I too have just become addicted to blogging. This is very new to me, but I enjoy reading other blogs & I enjoy posting my own. And I am definately not as brave as Nate to post my weight & everything I eat (yet!). I will definately give my weight later, once I have lost some noticable weight.

Thanks everyone for your support! That s why I started this blog. So that it just gives me even more support, in addition to my family & my meetings. And congrats to everyone who has lost the weight & kept it off. Has it been hard to maintain?

I wouldn't worry too much about the oil intake....at least at first. I don't conciously track that either. For the cake, I'd say go to the store, buy a 6-pack of cupcakes for your husband's birthday, and throw 2 away right away (only 4 in your family right?)

I also highly recommend snacking. It keeps your metabolism going. That was a big change I had to make...going from 2 or 3 big meals per day to 3 smaller meals and 2 or 3 snacks. If you read through my whole blog, some of my snacks are actually a 4th meal.

A GREAT thing to snack on is popcorn. I was never a huge fan of it, but once I got recommitted to WW, popcorn is such a low point snack that I HAD to learn to love it. Now I live on popcorn..:) We make so much of it that we stopped buying microwave popcorn (except for trips) and got a hot air popper. A 4 lb bag of popcorn kernals is about 3 or 4 bucks at our local grocery store. Add some spray "I can't believe it's fabio" and some seasoning (white cheddar and garden ranch are my favorites) and you've got yourself a treat. I will also occasionally put a couple of packets of Splenda on it instead of the seasoning to make my own version of kettle corn.

Getting started is tough. We started grocery shopping on Friday nights because there weren't many people to annoy while we compared brands with the PointsFinder. As we put food away every item was marked with a Sharpie as to how many points per serving it was. If you don't already own one, go get an electronic food scale. You can measure out EVERYTHING this way and control portion sizes. This worked great for us. You'll get it, it gets easier with time. It really is a lifestyle change!
p.s. I'm referring Brian to the oil question!

Ok, here you go. Excercise - You'll get that in week three when you talk about moving more. You never want start something so intense that you won't keep it up. If you've never worked out 5 days a week, don't start now. Start moving slowly and try to work it in that works for your life style. Go walking, or go walking more, or choose one day a week to join an excercise class. Oil - Make your own salad dressing. Fry up your meat in that. Also, one tbs of grape seed oil added to a smoothie doesn't change the taste. Don't worry too much about oil and multivitamin. At this point, concentrate on eating all your points (that's hard for some people if you can believe it), and get the portions right. Once you get used to points and traking, then focus on the veggies, water and milk. It took me 29 years to get fat and learn to eat right. I took me a while to get used to the program. Even now, maintaining and working for Weight Watchers, it's sometime tough. But keep it up and take it day by day.
